The Swiss team of Anja Weber, Nadja Kälin, Marina Kälin and Nadine Fähndrich equaled their previous best result at a World Championships. The team of Sylvia Honegger, Andrea Huber, Brigitte Albrecht and Natascia Leonardi also secured 5th place 26 years ago.

The Swiss women lost 3 minutes and 19 seconds over the distance of four times seven and a half kilometers to the Swedes, who prevailed against the Norwegians, who for a long time looked like the certain defending champions, and dealt the athletes from the host country another blow. The Germans narrowly won the battle for bronze against the Finns.

The Swedes, whose relay team consisted of Emma Ribom, Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson and Joanna Sundling, had already won gold in the previous four events of this World Championships. The Norwegians were still 37 seconds ahead before the final relay. However, Jonna Sundling quickly made up the deficit in the duel against Kristin Fosnäs, who was taking part in a major event for the first time, and as expected had the better end in the final sprint. It was Sundling's third gold at these championships and Sweden's second women's relay gold after the one in Seefeld six years ago.
