Noè Ponti will be competing in a fourth final at the European Short Course Championships in Lublin on Sunday. The Ticino native is also the number 1 medal favorite in the 200 m dolphin.

Ponti improved by almost a second in the semi-final and set the fastest time in 1:51.53 seconds. A second Swiss, Ilan Gagnebin, joined Ponti in the semi-finals over the long dolphin distance. The swimmer from western Switzerland was eliminated in the semi-finals in 17th place in his first major championships. However, he improved his personal best in the semi-finals with a time of 1:55.41 seconds.

Thierry Bollin, the 25-year-old from Bern, will not be keeping Ponti company in the finals on Sunday. Bollin finished ninth in his strongest discipline, 50 m backstroke, by three hundredths of a second in the semi-final. Bollin has been struggling with major (health) problems this season, was even studying retirement and should be reasonably satisfied with his "comeback".

Angelina Patt from SK Uster also clearly missed the final in the 50 m backstroke one day after her 20th birthday in 27.09 (preliminary heat) and 27.04 seconds (semi-final). However, Patt lived up to expectations at her first European Championships.

Vanna Djakovic also achieved a best time on Saturday. She improved her Swiss record in the heats of the 1500 m crawl to 16:15.73 minutes. However, Djakovic missed out on qualifying for the final by seven seconds. Djakovic finished twelfth.
