The three-time 2024 world champion in the small pool excelled in the 100 m dolphin final. He won in 48.53 seconds, just 8 tenths faster than the world record he had held since December 2024.

Ponti was later unable to add to his tally in the 100 m medley final. In fifth place after 75 m, he fought his way up to second place in 51.13 seconds. He was 0.80 seconds behind the Swiss record.

The two-time silver medal winner of the 2025 World Championships in the large pool (over 50 m and 100 m dolphin) will compete in three more events this weekend in the state of Indiana. Ponti is also entered in the 200m dolphin, 200m medley and the 50m dolphin on Sunday.
