With the 82-year-old Walter Frey, who has been appointed Honorary President, the architect of the Lions' success story is stepping down - a story that began 39 years ago when Frey took over the management of the Grasshopper Club's ice hockey section.

Eight years after taking office as "GC boss", Frey took the decisive step. He merged the Grasshoppers with the Zurich Ice Skating Club. ZSC brought the license and the fan base, GC the youth organization and the financial strength into the new construct. Under Frey's leadership, a pyramid was created with the ZSC Lions in the then National League A, the GCK Lions in the National League B and the entire youth organization, including the women's section, underneath. The foundations were laid for the sporting successes of the years to come.

The future Chairman of the Board of Directors, Lorenz Frey-Hilti, is very familiar with the scene. As a junior, he passed through the Lions' youth department up to the U20 Elite class. As Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ZSC Lions and President of the GCK Lions, the 35-year-old Frey-Hilti has been closely involved in strategic management for several years and knows the organization down to the last detail. He has been a member of the Executive Board of the Emil Frey Group for several years.
