Alanis Siffert reaches the podium at the triathlon classic in Roth, Germany. The Freiburg native finished third behind German world champion Laura Philipp and Australian Grace Thek.
The 23-year-old switched from the 3.8 km swim to the bike (180 km) as the clear leader. After a good five hours of competition, Siffert was then overtaken by Philipp, and in the final run (42.2 km) she fell behind the podium positions for a while, but fought her way back to third place in the end. The Swiss finished a good 24 minutes behind Philipp and 4 minutes behind Thek. With Nina Derron (7th) and Laura Kessler (9th), two more Swiss women made it into the top 10.
Philipp clearly won in 8:18:18 hours, but Anne Haug's world best time of 8:02:38 hours in Roth last year remained unchanged. This time, Haug was unable to compete due to injury and is focusing on the Ironman World Championships in the fall.
