The decision not to participate 40 days ago was made due to serious concerns about how title holder "Team New Zealand" wants to organize the America's Cup. Ten days ago, Napoli was presented as the venue without a mandatory agreement (protocol) having been signed with a challenger regarding the organization of the 2027 America's Cup. According to Alinghi, this would mean that the New Zealanders are breaking the rules.
In its statement, the Alinghi syndicate says it will consider a return to the America's Cup 2027 if a fair sporting framework and a commercially viable event is secured for all.
