Ineos Britannia managed to maneuver Team Alinghi Red Bull Racing downwind with a tack in the pre-start phase. This led to the Swiss team falling off the foils due to a lack of pressure in the sails and bobbing on the sea like a duck. Valuable time elapsed before the yacht got flying again. The gap when crossing the start line was already 2:12 minutes. The Brits achieved their third victory in their third duel, while the Swiss suffered their third defeat - and their third defeat at the start.
Alinghi Red Bull Racing will get the chance to show a better side later on Saturday afternoon. The second race of the day will be a test of strength against defending champions New Zealand, who are competing in the Louis Vuitton Cup, the challengers' cup.
