The Alpine-Renault Formula 1 team has made a driver change after just six races. The Argentinian Franco Colapinto will replace the Australian Jack Doohan in Imola on May 18.
For the time being, however, Colapinto will only get five Grands Prix to prove himself and do better than Doohan, one of four drivers with no points so far this Formula 1 season. The son of Australian motorcycle legend Mick Doohan has been under pressure for some time because he has also been at fault in several accidents.
The 21-year-old Colapinto drove for Williams in the second half of last season. He even scored five points, but did not get a cockpit afterwards. Now he will drive for the first time at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in a week's time on Sunday alongside second Alpine regular Pierre Gasly. He will also be allowed to drive in Monaco, Spain, Canada and Austria.
Equipe Alpine is in 9th place in the team standings, one point ahead of bottom-placed Sauber.
