The second coaching change of the current season brings Ambri-Piotta luck, at least in the short term. In Jussi Tapola's first game in charge, the Leventines win the derby against Lugano 3:2.

Ambri-Piotta is experiencing an incredibly difficult season, but a derby win makes up for a lot and brings back hope of a happy ending. The decisive goal was scored by the often criticized Chris DiDomenico in the 24th minute.

Ambri continued to play with pressure and defended their lead until the final phase. After exactly 18 minutes, Alex Formenton scored into an empty net to make it 3:1, Dario Simion reduced the deficit to 2:3 with 36 seconds remaining, thus ensuring a turbulent final phase. Miles Müller had already made it 1:0 in his 100th National League game in the opening period.

The two arch-rivals from Ticino now share the season record with two wins each. Ambri urgently need the points and have pushed Kloten, who are without a game, into second-last place, which "condemns" them to a play-off against Ajoie. Lugano, on the other hand, is losing sight of the top duo Davos and Fribourg-Gottéron.

Stransky keeps the leaders on course

HC Davos is confident at the top of the National League. The 4:3 away win in Rapperswil-Jona is the fourth three-pointer in a row - thanks to an outstanding Matej Stransky.

Matej Stransky, captain and a member of the Czech Republic's Olympic squad, turned the tide in favor of the leaders in the middle third. After Denmark's Nicklas Jensen, also an Olympian, had equalized the score at 2:2, Stransky set up Valentin Nussbaumer's Davos goal to make it 3:2 seven minutes before the end in overtime.

The Lakers had no answer to that. Jensen scored a hat-trick, but it was only 3:4. After going without a point for the fourth game in a row, Rapperswil-Jona are in danger of losing their good starting position. The top 6 have receded into the distance and even 8th place, which offers two chances in the play-in, is now in danger.

Fribourg unstoppable

Fribourg-Gottéron is the team of the moment in the National League. The 5:3 in Geneva against Servette is the eighth win in a row and cements 2nd place.

Fribourg-Gottéron had won many games narrowly in the last week, no less than five of them in overtime or penalty shoot-outs. In Geneva, on the other hand, the Fribourg team made sure the situation was clear early on. Between the 8th and 19th minute, Canadian Ty Rattie scored his first goal in his third game since moving to Switzerland, Christoph Bertschy scored his ninth goal while shorthanded in the National League and Henrik Borgström scored the decisive goals from 1:1 to 4:1.

After a goalless middle third, three more goals were scored in the final period, but Servette could not get any closer than two goals.

With this convincing win, Fribourg distanced themselves from a direct rival in the battle for 2nd place. Roger Rönnberg's team will regret the fact that they only have two games left before the Olympic break - against Kloten on Friday and the top-of-the-table clash with leaders Davos on Sunday.
