The Swiss track cyclists Michelle Andres and Aline Seitz experience a day to forget at their Olympic premiere. They finished 14th and penultimate in the Madison.

Disaster struck during a breakaway in the eighth of 120 laps. Andres collided with another rider and both Swiss riders crashed. The 27-year-old from Aargau then continued to struggle with the handover and lost a lot of time and momentum on more than one occasion. In the end, it was not enough to win any points. Only the Canadians finished behind the Swiss after their early elimination.

The Italian duo Chiara Consonni and Vittoria Guazzini became Olympic champions in the madison, which has been on the program since Tokyo. With 37 points, they distanced the world champions Elinor Barker and Neah Evans from Great Britain by six points. Bronze went to Maike van der Duin and Lisa van Belle from the Netherlands.
