Great honor for Sven Andrighetto: The Swiss national player from the ZSC Lions is voted the best player of the past season by the International Ice Hockey Federation.
After winning a silver medal at the World Championships, the Swiss championship title and the Champions Hockey League, Sven Andrighetto now also receives a personal award for his outstanding performances. The 32-year-old forward was voted player of the season by the IIHF with 34.6 percent of the votes. He clearly prevailed over US goalie Jeremy Swayman (18.6 percent) and the Czech David Pastrnak (18 percent). Denis Malgin, who received 11.1 percent of the vote, was another Swiss player in fourth place.
Andrighetto follows the Czech Roman Cervenka (2024) and the Canadian Connor Bedard (2023), who received the award, which was presented for the first time two years ago, in previous years.
To be eligible for the award, a player must have participated in at least one IIHF tournament and play in a top domestic league. The majority of stars from the NHL are therefore not eligible.
