Multi-discipline athlete Annik Kälin competes in the long jump at the European Championships in Apeldoorn and announces her ambitions for a medal among the specialists in the qualifying round.
With 6.77 m, she equaled her Swiss indoor record.
The athlete from Graubünden had already achieved exactly the same distance a month ago in Paris. The Swiss outdoor record is 6.84 m. This record is shared by Irene Pusterla and Annik Kälin.
Annik Kälin exercised caution in the record jump in Apeldoorn after overshooting her first attempt. The 24-year-old gave away 14 cm on the beam. "I didn't think this jump would go that far. It shows that I'm in great shape," said the athlete. The strong times over 60 m flat this winter had confirmed the increased basic speed she had developed in training. "I have more speed."
Taking potential as a yardstick, gold in Saturday evening's final is likely to be reserved for the German Malaika Mihambo. Behind her, a close race is looming. It would be time for the pendulum to swing to the side of the Swiss athlete. The Olympic heptathlon fourth-placed long jumper missed out on European Championship bronze by 9 cm in Rome last summer and World Indoor Championship bronze by 3 cm in March 2024.
