Six days after his second triumph in the Milan-Sanremo classic, Van der Poel was also in a class of his own in the 209-kilometer stage in Harelbeke. The 30-year-old Dutchman finished the stage one minute and seven seconds ahead of the Dane Mads Pedersen. Filippo Ganna came third. The Italian lost two minutes and five seconds to Van der Poel. Stefan Küng was the best Swiss rider in sixth place.
Van der Poel brought about the preliminary decision 39 kilometers before the finish. His rivals were powerless against his increased pace. The 2023 world champion continuously extended his lead.
