Switzerland has won a second medal in two days at the European Championships in Tbilisi, once again thanks to a young woman from Vaud.
April Lynn Fohouo secured the bronze medal in the weight class up to 70 kg, 24 hours after Binta Ndiaye had won the same medal in the weight class up to 57 kg.
After winning her group in Georgia on Saturday, April Lynn Fohouo dominated Sweden's Ida Eriksson to reach the semi-finals. In these, she was beaten by the eventual European champion Szofi Ozbas. The Hungarian had already beaten the Swiss in the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Paris in February of this year.
However, the 20-year-old from the canton of Vaud, who became U21 world champion in Peru last October, quickly regained her form and won one of the two fights for third place. She defeated Croatia's Lara Cvjetko, the runner-up in this weight class at the World Championships in Budapest in June 2025, with an ippon to secure the bronze medal.
