Former judoka and FDP politician Sergei Aschwanden is withdrawing his candidacy for the office of President of Swiss Olympic.
The 48-year-old told the newspaper "Blick" that he lacked the necessary support.
This means that former Federal Councillor Ruth Metzler-Arnold and Markus Wolf, the former CEO of Swiss-Ski, are still in the running to succeed Jürg Stahl. The latter is stepping down after seven years as president of the sports umbrella organization due to term limits. x
The election will take place on Friday, November 22, as part of the next ordinary meeting of the Sports Parliament at the Haus des Sports in Ittigen near Bern.
