Audrey Gogniat is keeping her hopes alive for a Swiss Olympic medal in shooting. She qualifies for the final in the 10 m air rifle competition. Nina Christen is eliminated.

The 21-year-old Gogniat finished the qualification in third place behind South Korea's Ban Hyojin and Norway's Jeanette Düstad. After the six series of ten shots each, the Frenchwoman scored a total of 632.6 points, just three tenths below Düstad's previous Olympic Games qualification record.

Christen, on the other hand, clearly failed. The athlete from Nidwalden found herself in 23rd place in the final ranking. She missed out on participation in the final with the best eight, which will take place on Monday morning, by 4.2 points.

The 21-year-old Gogniat has already demonstrated her high level of ability on several international occasions. At the beginning of March, she won bronze at the European Championships in Györ in Hungary, also with the air rifle over 10 m, and last year she secured gold at the European Games in Krakow in Poland alongside Christen and Chiara Leone.

With her convincing performance, Gogniat kept open the possibility of doing the same to Christen. Three years ago in Tokyo, the athlete from central Switzerland had surprised everyone by winning bronze in this discipline - and thus launched the Olympic Games in Japan's capital in the best possible way from a Swiss perspective. A week later, she used her high to strike a major blow and became the first Swiss shooter to win the Olympic gold medal in the 50-metre three-position rifle match.
