Baserga on the podium for the first time in the World Cup

Baserga lost 43.1 seconds to the French winner Lou Jeanmonnot, who, like the Swiss athlete, cleared all twenty targets. Previously, Baserga's best result in the World Cup was 9th place.

Four years after becoming double world junior champion, the 24-year-old from Einsiedeln has now also made her mark in the World Cup for the first time. For the first time ever at this level, she remained unblemished in an individual competition with two prone and two standing shots, in which every mistake is penalized with one minute's penalty. Only three other skiers managed this. What's more, the well-known good shooter is also improving her form on the cross-country track.

Baserga is only the third Swiss woman after Selina Gasparin and Lena Häcki-Gross to finish on the podium in the World Cup.

The build-up to the home World Championships in Lenzerheide in just under a month's time is therefore just right. This is all the more surprising as Baserga had to have wrist surgery in the spring and had to make certain restrictions in her summer training. Elisa Gasparin (13th/1 penalty minute), Häcki-Gross (18th/2 penalty minutes) and Aita Gasparin (25th/2) were other Swiss athletes who performed well.
