Kenyan Beatrice Chebet, two-time Olympic champion in the 5000m and 10,000m in Paris 2024, double world champion and world record holder in both disciplines, is taking a maternity break in 2026.
"After many rumors, we can finally share the news: in 2026 Beatrice Chebet will run the most important race of her life and become a mother," her agent announced on social media.
Beatrice Chebet was one of the big stars of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September 2025, when she excelled in the 10,000 m and then the 5000 m ahead of her friend Faith Kipyegon.
The 25-year-old was due to defend her titles at the World Cross Country Championships in Florida next Saturday, but withdrew a few days ago without giving a precise explanation. However, she could not resist saying that she was looking forward to the next chapter in her life.
The next World Championships will take place in Beijing in 2027, before the 2028 Olympic Games are held in Los Angeles. Mother Mujinga Kambundji has also set her sights on these title fights.
