The Olympic season ends prematurely for halfpipe snowboarder Berenice Wicki. The Bernese athlete tore her cruciate ligament again - the second such accident this year.
The 23-year-old crashed last week during training for the Snow League in Secret Garden in China. Examinations in Switzerland confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a meniscus injury, as Swiss-Ski announced in a press release.
Wicki had already torn the same cruciate ligament in February and missed the home World Championships in the Engadine as a result. As things stand, she will undergo surgery in the next few days.
The Swiss athlete finished 7th at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, earning her a diploma. At the 2023 World Championships in Bakuriani, she finished in 8th place.
