The Oilers had lost the opener of the semi-final series against the team featuring Solothurn defenceman Lian Bichsel, but now they have strung together their third win in a row with a 4-1 victory at home. The team led by superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl thus earned three opportunities to qualify for the Stanley Cup Final, as they did last year, the first of which came on Friday night in Game 5 in Dallas.
The German Draisaitl and the Canadian McDavid, the most successful point scorers of these playoffs, increased their personal accounts once again in a game in which the decision was only made in the last two and a half minutes when the Oilers scored two goals into the empty net.
Draisaitl gave his team the lead midway through the first period in overtime and was also involved in Finn Kasperi Kapanen's 3:1. McDavid set up two of his compatriots twice. In the second period, he also set up Corey Perry's 2:1 on the power play. He was also at the origin of Adam Henrique's goal, which provided the final point 50 seconds before the end of the game.
Jason Robertson scored for the Stars. The American equalized in the second period to make it 1:1. Bichsel played eleven-and-a-half minutes and finished the game with a clean sheet.
