EHC Biel is parting ways with head coach Martin Filander with immediate effect. Until a successor is found, the two assistants Mathias Tjärnqvist and Beat Forster will take over on an interim basis, the club announces.

Biel is in danger of missing the playoffs for the second time in a row. As at the end of the last qualifying campaign, the Seelanders are currently in 11th place, outside the play-in ranks. Their record this year is positive with four wins and three defeats, although their most recent loss was a 6-1 defeat away to Fribourg-Gottéron two days ago.

In its statement on the separation, the club management regrets that "despite individual positive developments, the desired overall development" was not achieved. The results and the team's performance had not always met expectations.

Last July, Filander's contract was extended until 2027 despite the disappointment of the previous season, partly because the 44-year-old Swede was able to successfully integrate young players into the team as required.
