The final of the NHL's Four Nations Tournament will be a North American affair. With a 5-3 win over Finland, Canada follows the USA into the final.
A double strike in the 5th minute by Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon set the game on the right track from Canada's point of view. The team of Jon Cooper, head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning, extended the lead to four goals and looked like the sure winners. However, Finland closed the gap to 3-4 in the final period before a shot into the empty net put the finishing touches on the game. It was Canada's second victory after their 4-3 opening win against Sweden.
This means that the finalists of the tournament have already been decided before the last group game: the emotional duel between the USA and Canada will be replayed in Boston on Friday night. In the last meeting in Montreal, which the USA won 3:1, there were three brawls on the ice in the first nine seconds.
This year, the four-nation tournament replaces the classic NHL All-Star Weekend. Numerous top stars from the best ice hockey league in the world are taking part.
