The Carolina Hurricanes have become the first team to reach the semi-finals of the NHL playoffs. They eliminated Philadelphia in the quarter-final series with a 4:0 win and thus preserved their clean slate.
The North Carolina franchise is only the fifth team in NHL history to win its first eight playoff games. But the eighth success hung by a thread on Saturday. The decision was only made in overtime. Jackson Blake scored the winning goal to make it 3:2.
The Colorado Avalanche, on the other hand, are no longer unbeaten in the Western Conference. The team from Denver, which had taken a 2-0 lead in the quarter-final series after a sweep against the Los Angeles Kings in the first round and two wins against Minnesota at the start, lost Game 3 on Saturday away to the Wild by a clear 1:5. Kirill Kaprissow in particular shone for Minnesota with a goal and two assists.
