The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in FIS qualifying competitions for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

According to the CAS ruling, athletes from these two countries will be allowed to compete if the criteria of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are met. For the athletes, this means that they can compete under a neutral flag at the Summer Games in Paris, as they did last year.

In October, the FIS had spoken out against Russians and Belarusians competing at the Olympics due to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. The Russian and Belarusian ski associations took legal action against this.

Moscow's Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyaryov, who is also President of the Russian Olympic Committee, welcomed the ruling and called it a success. There was initially no comment from the FIS.
