Swiss wheelchair athlete Catherine Debrunner wins the Tokyo Marathon, the first of six stages of the World Marathon Majors.
The six-time Paralympic champion from Paris 2024 improved the course record of her compatriot Manuela Schär from 2023 by 47 seconds in 1:35:56 hours. The Kriens native missed out on the podium this year in fourth place by just five seconds.
In the absence of three-time winner Marcel Hug, Japan's Tomoki Suzuki triumphed in the men's race, as he did last year.
Among the marathon runners, the victories went to Ethiopia. Tadese Takele finished first in the men's race in 2:03:23 hours, while Sutume Asefa Kebede repeated her victory from the previous year in the women's race in 2:16:29 hours.
