24-year-old Cedric Gugler from Basel finishes the Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana in a brilliant 4th place. The victory goes to the Englishman Matt Wallace.
Gugler conjured up a fantastic tournament on the greens on the high plateau in Valais. From Thursday to Sunday, he was almost permanently in the top ten for four days. He defied the rain on Thursday, the pressure (having to make the cut) on Friday, the wind on Saturday and the fog at times on Sunday.
Gugler finished the tournament with eight strokes under par. On Sunday, he remained three strokes under the course standard (par 70). Gugler was only the third Swiss to make it into the top 10 in Crans, missing out on the play-off for the tournament win by three strokes.
Cedric Gugler is forcing his way into the limelight on the up-and-coming Swiss golf scene. He has won three tournaments at the third-highest level this season and secured his tour card for the Challenger Tour (second-highest level) back in July. Thanks to his exploit in Crans, Gugler will also be able to compete on the DP World Tour next week - at the Irish Open. There he will also meet superstar Rory McIlroy.
England's Matt Wallace celebrated his fifth tournament victory in the play-off against Spain's Alfredo Garcia-Heredia on the first extra hole - his first in more than six years.
