Dubé signed a contract valid until the end of the 2026/27 season. Biel is currently in 11th place in the National League.

The Seelanders were under time pressure. The next game is already scheduled for Friday in Lausanne. Dubé will be on the bench for the last eleven games of the qualifiers, five before the Olympic break and six afterwards.

The 48-year-old Canadian with a Swiss passport faces a delicate task. Biel are currently in 11th place in the National League and are fighting for a place in the play-in. The gap to SC Bern in 10th place is currently two points. After Friday's visit to Lausanne, the team can play three games at home: against the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers on January 24, against Ajoie on January 27 and against the ZSC Lions on January 30.

Dubé was sports director at Fribourg-Gottéron from 2015 to 2024 and previously worked as a player from 2011. In October 2019, he also succeeded Mark French as coach. He held both positions for almost five years before handing over the sporting reins to Gerd Zenhäusern and having to step down as coach in May 2024.

Biel sports director Martin Steinegger is quoted in the club's press release as saying: "Christian Dubé stands for active, intensive and structured ice hockey. Under his leadership, Fribourg-Gottéron played a fast-paced game with great aggressiveness and clear principles on the ice for several seasons. We are convinced that this style of play fits perfectly with our squad and the DNA of EHC Biel. Christian Dubé also brings a lot of experience, strong leadership qualities and a clear vision of sporting development, which we want to pursue further."
