On Thursday, French-speaking Switzerland symbolically started the countdown to the start of the Tour de France Femmes in 100 days' time.
The Grand Départ of the tour will take place in Lausanne on August 1. The other two Swiss stage locations before heading to France in the following days are Aigle, where the world cycling association UCI has its headquarters, and Geneva.
"We want to turn the Grand Départ into a sporting highlight and a public festival that encourages the population to cycle," said Émilie Moeschler, the councillor responsible for sport and social affairs in the city of Lausanne.
After the first stages in Switzerland, the Tour de France Femmes leads via Dijon and Mont Ventoux, among other places, towards the final destination in Nice. In nine days, the female cyclists have to cover 1175 kilometers.
