The Olympic winter begins with a setback for Swiss freestyle snowboarder Nicolas Huber. The Zurich native is facing a break of several months due to a back injury.
Huber suffered the injury on Thursday during a fall in the qualification for the big air season opener in the Chinese Secret Garden, as reported by Swiss-Ski. Investigations on site revealed two vertebral fractures - one in the thoracic and one in the lumbar vertebrae.
The two-time World Championship medal winner will travel back to Switzerland in the coming days, where further medical examinations will be carried out and the next steps will be determined. This marks the start of a race against time for the 30-year-old Huber with a view to the Olympic Games in Italy in February.
