Iouri Podladtchikov confirmed to Swiss television SRF that he tore a cruciate ligament during training in Canada.

The 36-year-old from Zurich made a surprising and unexpected return to the World Cup in January. The Sochi 2014 Olympic champion and three-time World Championship medal winner recently shone with a 6th place at the World Cup in Calgary. However, Podladtchikov will now miss the home World Championships in the Engadine in mid-March.

The next few days and weeks will show to what extent the cruciate ligament rupture will jeopardize his long-term goal - participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
