After winning the overall World Cup, Alessandra Keller will have to take a break from training for the time being. The Swiss mountain biker is recovering from knee surgery.
Keller had to have surgery on her right cruciate ligament last week. The operation, scheduled for the end of the season, took place six years after a training crash at the home World Championships in Lenzerheide. The cruciate ligament rupture, which did not prevent the Nidwalden native from winning gold in the U23 category, has been treated conservatively ever since. Now, in the interests of far-sighted planning, the decision to operate has no longer been postponed.
Keller is familiar with the challenges and opportunities of such an operation, as she already had to undergo surgery in 2021 due to a torn cruciate ligament in her left knee. If the healing process goes well, she will have to use crutches for four weeks. Light swimming training should be possible soon. Looking ahead to the home World Championships in Valais in September, the 28-year-old says: "There's still plenty of time until then. I don't feel any pressure."
