Now it's official: Captain Matej Stransky will leave HC Davos at the end of the current season despite his contract still running. The top scorer is moving back to his home country for family reasons.

As the HCD announced, the club and the player have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, which originally ran until spring 2027, prematurely at the end of the 2025-26 season. The decisive factor for this step was Stransky's express wish to be closer to his family again, who have already been living in the Czech Republic for a year and a half.

"HCD deeply regrets this step, but fully understands the player's personal situation," the club writes in its communiqué. They have worked together to find the best possible solution for everyone involved. As the 32-year-old Stransky has a high market value despite his departure, the Swiss record champions are likely to earn a corresponding transfer fee from the transfer to the Czech extra league.

Stransky moved from Ocelari Trinec to Davos in 2021 and quickly developed into an absolute top performer there. Since this season, he has led the team onto the ice as captain. With 28 goals and 25 assists, he played a key role in helping the Grisons win qualification.

This outstanding performance has not gone unappreciated. In a survey conducted by Tamedia newspapers among the captains and coaches of the National League clubs, Stransky was voted the most valuable player (MVP) of the past qualifying campaign. Despite his impending departure, his focus is now clear: he is aiming for the perfect finish with the HCD in the form of the championship title.
