Andres Ambühl is ending his career as a professional ice hockey player after the current season. This was announced by HC Davos on social media.

Andres Ambühl enjoys legendary status in Swiss ice hockey. The 41-year-old Grisons native has won the Swiss championship six times. Last October, the long-time captain of HC Davos replaced Beat Gerber from Bern as the record holder in the National League with his 1270th championship game at the highest level in Switzerland.

Ambühl, who was also under contract with the ZSC Lions for three seasons and spent one year in North America, also left his mark on the international stage. His 19 World Cup appearances and 141 World Cup games are a world record. Last year, he won World Championship silver with Switzerland for the second time since 2013.
