Wheelchair athlete Catherine Debrunner wins the marathon in Oita, just like last year. The 29-year-old from Thurgau is in a class of her own in the coastal city in the southwest of Japan.

Debrunner's lead over the first chasers was more than three minutes. Patricia Eachus ensured a Swiss double victory by beating the local Tsuchida Wakako by one second in the final sprint.

The men's race took place without Swiss participation.
