The three goals were scored within 13 minutes in the second period. Brodie Ziemer (22) and Will Zellers (35) gave the USA the lead twice, with Sansonnens (33) equalizing in between. Basile Sansonnens (19) defends for the Lausanne Hockey Club in Switzerland.

"We played very solidly, so it's disappointing that we lost the game," said coach Jan Cadieux. But if his team continues like this, it will also win games.

The Swiss team will be in action for the second time against Sweden on Sunday at 8 p.m. Swiss time.

All the players experienced a moment of shock in the middle of the second period when American Cole Hutson was hit on the head (above the neck) by a puck. He did not move for several minutes and had to be stretchered off. Hutson was one of the best defensemen at the last U20 World Championship.
