The Swiss women's national team suffer their first defeat in their second match in qualifying for Euro 2026. Coach Lauren Bertolacci's team lost 0:3 against Germany.

In contrast to the first match of this qualification phase, in which they defeated the Finns 3:2 in Turku last Sunday after an unsuccessful start, the Swiss had their strongest phase against the favorites Germany at the beginning of the match.

In the first set, they were beaten 36:38 after a long, hard fight and a five-point lead at one stage. After that, the balance of power became clearer. The second and third sets were won 25:18 and 25:9 by the Germans, who are ranked 20 places higher than the Swiss in the European team rankings.

Play in the qualifiers for the European Championships, which will be held in Azerbaijan, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Turkey in two years' time, is now suspended until next summer. The Swiss women will then play their second matches against Finland and Germany. In addition to the seven group winners, the five best runners-up will also take part in the finals.
