Gregor Deschwanden is in a position to open the 2025 sports year with a bang from a Swiss perspective. He kept up with the best in qualifying for the New Year's ski jumping competition.
The Lucerne native sailed to 137 m in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. However, the top jump was only good enough for 4th place, as the Austrians once again achieved a triple success this season. Jan Hörl, Daniel Tschofenig and Michael Hayböck scored slightly more points than the Swiss.
Killian Peier also impressed once again. The Frenchman landed after 134.5 meters. The 2019 World Championship bronze medallist has made a significant improvement this season and has been showing that he is close to the top ten for a few weeks now.
Felix Trunz can also take off at the New Year's competition. He just made the cut in 50th place and will meet qualification winner Hörl in the knockout duel on Wednesday.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the second stop of the Four Hills Tournament. The Austrians also lead the overall tour rankings with three athletes. Stefan Kraft is ahead of Hörl and Tschofenig in the ranking. Deschwanden is sixth.
