Jérémy Desplanches, who had already decided to retire at the end of the season before the Summer Games in Paris and announced his decision, is now officially stepping down.
In recent weeks, there had been talk of swimming a few smaller competitions at best. But now he has decided not to take part in any more races, the 30-year-old from Geneva announced in a communiqué from Swiss Aquatics.
Desplanches is one of the most successful Swiss swimmers and has medals to his name in the 200m medley at the Olympic Games (bronze in 2021), World Championships (silver in 2019) and European Championships (gold in 2018). He initially failed to qualify as an individual swimmer for the Games in Paris 2024, but was invited by World Aquatics to take part in his showpiece event thanks to the B limit he achieved in the 200m medley.
