Djokovic and Nadal on a collision course

The Serbian Novak Djokovic (ATP 2) will face the 36-year-old Australian doubles specialist Matthew Ebden in the starting round. Ebden led the doubles world rankings this year and is currently ranked 3rd, but no longer has a singles ranking. Rafael Nadal (ATP 161), last week's finalist in Bastad, will face Hungary's Marton Fucsovics (ATP 83) in the opener.

Stan Wawrinka will face the Russian Pavel Kotov in his first round match. Wawrinka and Kotov already met at the Grand Slam tournament in Roland-Garros in the spring. Should Wawrinka be able to beat Kotov, the next possible opponents would be the Chilean number 16 seed Nicolas Jarry and then Olympic champion Alexander Zverev.

Six top 10 players will start the Olympic tennis tournament: Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 3), title holder Alexander Zverev (ATP 4), Daniil Medvedev (ATP 5), Alex De Minaur (ATP 6) and Casper Ruud (ATP 8).

The women's tournament is even stronger, with all the top 10 players except Maria Sakkari from Greece taking part. Viktorija Golubic, the only Swiss player, will play world number five Jessica Pegula right at the start.
