Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic remains in the title race around a month after his knee operation at Wimbledon. The record Grand Slam winner won confidently 6:3, 6:4, 6:2 against Holger Rune from Denmark to reach the quarter-finals. Djokovic needed 2:03 hours in the match on the center court after Alexander Zverev had retired. This is the 37-year-old Serb's 15th appearance in the top eight at Wimbledon and his 60th Grand Slam quarter-final.
Djokovic suffered a torn meniscus in his knee in the round of 16 of the French Open in Paris and subsequently did not play in the quarter-finals. Following an operation, he nevertheless felt ready for the London grass court classic.
Djokovic is aiming for his eighth Wimbledon title, which would tie him with Swiss record champion Roger Federer. He will now face Australian Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals.
