In the 5000 m road race, the World Athletics Federation holds world records for races with men and women as well as world records in women-only races. The 24-year-old Chebet improved her compatriot Agnes Jebet Ngetich's record in the men's and women's races by 19 seconds to 13:54 minutes. Chebet also set the world record in women's races a year ago in Barcelona (14:13 minutes).
In the summer at the Olympic Games in Paris, Chebet won the gold medals on the track over 5000 and 10,000 meters.
