Brutal heat, extreme humidity - Hawaii pushes even the best in the world to their limits. The Norwegian Solveig Lövseth defies the conditions best and becomes Ironman World Champion.
In the most difficult conditions with extreme heat and extremely high humidity after overnight rain, 26-year-old Norwegian Solveig Lövseth came out on top ahead of Britain's Kat Matthews and Germany's Laura Philipp. Lövseth needed 8 hours 28 minutes and 27 seconds for the 3.86-kilometer swim, 180.2-kilometer bike ride and 42.195-kilometer run.
She also benefited from the fact that the 2023 Hawaii winner, Lucy Charles-Barclay from Great Britain, and Taylor Knibb had to retire staggering and completely exhausted. The US American Knibb was in the lead until three kilometers before the finish.
It was the last edition of the race for women only for the time being. The men's race was also won by a Norwegian, Casper Stornes, in Nice in September. Next year, men and women will start together again in Hawaii.
The only Swiss starter, Nina Derron, finished in 26th place, around 52 minutes behind. Her sister and Olympic silver medalist Julie Derron had to cancel her participation after a crash on her bike in August.
