The 28-year-old Dubois prevailed in Manchester in a spectacular exchange of blows against title holder Fabio Wardley. He deservedly defeated his opponent, who is three years older than him, by technical knockout after eleven of twelve rounds in the fight for the WBO belt.

It was Dubois' 23rd victory in his 26th professional fight, with three defeats on his record. He celebrated 22 of his victories by knockout. Wardley, on the other hand, suffered his first defeat as a professional in his first world championship fight. The Briton had secured the interim WBO title in October with a surprise victory over New Zealander Joseph Parker. After Ukrainian star Alexander Usyk relinquished his WBO belt, Wardley was declared world champion of the association shortly afterwards.

Usyk still holds the other three prestigious world titles. Last summer, he inflicted a knockout defeat on Dubois. The Brit lost to Usyk for the second time, forfeited his IBF belt and has not fought again since.
