Armand Duplantis was challenged more than ever before

Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis has achieved something historic on his way to his third world indoor title.
The two-time Olympic champion crossed the 6 meter mark for the 100th time in Nanjing, China, with a jump over 6.00 meters. The 25-year-old then went on to master 6.05 and 6.15 m before relinquishing his attempt to break his own world record of 6.27 m. For comparison: Ukrainian pole vault legend Sergei Bubka jumped six meters or higher 45 times in his entire career.
Duplantis was challenged in China, as the Greek Emmanouil Karalis set a national record of 6.05 meters. American Sam Kendricks (5.90) secured bronze.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen was also the favorite in the men's 3000 m race. The 24-year-old Norwegian won in 7:46.09 minutes ahead of the Ethiopian Berihu Aregawi (7:46.25) and the Australian Ky Robinson (7:47.09). It was Ingebrigtsen's first World Championship title indoors. On Sunday he would like to double up in the 1500m.
