Wout van Aert is ending his season prematurely after his crash at the Vuelta. The Belgian will therefore also miss the World Championships in Zurich, which begin in just over two weeks' time.
According to a press release from his team, Van Aert has decided to recover from his knee injury. He suffered a deep cut to his right knee in his heavy crash in the 16th stage of the Tour of Spain.
"He needs time to recover," wrote the team managers of Visma-Lease a Bike and confirmed once again that Van Aert, who has won four stages of the Vuelta and leads the points and mountains classification, has not suffered any fractures.
