As at the Athletissima in Lausanne, Simon Ehammer finished 3rd in the long jump at Weltklasse Zürich. Otherwise, there were no top Swiss finishes in Diamond League disciplines.

Ehammer has never jumped eight meters at either of the two top meetings in Switzerland. The 24-year-old from Appenzell would have loved to eradicate this flaw in Zurich, but he was once again denied by a narrow margin. While he had reached 7.99 m in Lausanne, this time it was 7.98 m. He broke the 8-meter mark at all other competitions this year.

Ehammer only recorded two valid attempts: 7.98 m in the first and 7.94 in the last. Nevertheless, he again made it onto the podium and, as in Lausanne, he was beaten by the Jamaican Olympic silver medallist Wayne Pinnock (8.18) and the Greek Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou (8.02) - Tentoglou won in Lausanne. Ehammer, who also came third in Doha in May, has qualified for the Diamond League final in Brussels on September 13 and 14. He won this a year ago.

Mujinga Kambundji only eighth

European 200m champion Mujinga Kambundji spoke of mental fatigue before the meeting. Despite the fantastic crowd in the sold-out Letzigrund, the 32-year-old from Bern was unable to conceal this. With a time of 11.14 seconds, the Olympic sixth-placed athlete was well below her capabilities and was unable to finish higher than 8th and penultimate. Her sister Ditaji Kambundji was disqualified in the 100 m hurdles after a false start.

Jason Joseph said before the 110 m hurdles race that anything could happen in Zurich. However, he once again failed to make the hoped-for breakthrough. On the contrary: with a time of 13.60 seconds, the 25-year-old from Basel finished in 9th and last place. That suits his season. Although he won European Championship bronze in Rome in June, he has never run faster than 13.25 seconds this year. A year ago, he beat this time nine times and set the current Swiss record of 13.07 seconds. Joseph also disappointed at the Olympic Games and was clearly eliminated in the semi-finals. Timothé Mumenthaler, European champion in the 200 m, also finished last in the half lap.

Women's sprint relay wins

The Swiss women's sprint relay team provided a successful finale. Salomé Kora, Sarah Atcho-Jaquier, Léonie Pointet and Mujinga Kambundji won in a commanding 42.55 seconds ahead of the Dutch quartet (43.46).

High jumper Salome Lang failed to make her last big appearance. The 26-year-old from Basel failed three times at the starting height of 1.80m. Lang plans to compete at the Swiss club championships in Winterthur on September 14 before ending her career.
