Jarl Magnus Riiber ends his last appearance at a major event in style. The Norwegian also wins his second individual Nordic combined competition at the World Championships in Trondheim.
Riiber once again laid the foundations for his renewed success on the ski jump. Thanks to his superiority in the jumping, he tackled the ten-kilometre cross-country race with a lead of one minute and 14 seconds. Riiber won with superiority ahead of his compatriot Jörgen Graabak and the German Vinzenz Geiger.
Riiber, who is retiring at the end of the season, won his third gold in Trondheim, his eleventh overall at the World Championships. He is retiring at the age of just 27 for health reasons. An intestinal illness has been troubling him for some time.
In Trondheim, Riiber and his teammates also won bronze in the team competition on the large hill. The Norwegians would probably have won gold there too if Graabak had not been disqualified after the jump due to a ski binding that contravened the rules.
Pascal Müller, the first Swiss combined athlete to take part in a World Championships for six years, finished in 28th place. After the jumping competition, the Glarus native was in 14th place.
