EV Zug makes a successful start to the new season. In the 1st round of the Champions Hockey League, the team from central Switzerland won their away game in Sweden.
EV Zug surprised the Swedish champions Lulea with a 3:2 win after overtime. The visitors' winning goal was scored by a Swede of all people, Zug's stand-in captain Lukas Bengtsson (Jan Kovar was absent due to convalescence).
EVZ led 2:1 until the 47th minute after goals from Lino Martschini and newcomer Tomas Tatar, contrary to the course of the game, and should not have complained about winning a point. Swiss national goalie Leonardo Genoni kept his team in the game on his 38th birthday with numerous strong saves and thus enabled Michael Liniger to make a winning debut as head coach.
