Belgian double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel is leaving Soudal Quick-Step after seven years and will be racing for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe from next season.
This was announced by his new team on Tuesday.
In addition to the gold medals at the Summer Games in Paris and the time trial world championship gold last year, Evenepoel also won the title of road world champion in 2022. In the major national tours, he has celebrated one success so far with the Vuelta 2022. He came third in the Tour de France in 2024 and also had to abandon this year's edition after finishing in third place.
There had already been speculation in the media last year and more intensively in recent weeks about his move to the German-Austrian team led by Primoz Roglic. Evenepoel's contract with Soudal Quick-Step would have run until the end of 2026. After negotiations about an early extension were broken off, the Belgian team announced that the transfer would now take place early.
