Three goals for three points: EV Zug stops Genève-Servette's good run with a 3:1 home win.
Despite the many absences of key players, the Zug team prevailed against Geneva, who had previously won three times. EVZ laid the foundation for this with two goals in the opening period. Tobias Geisser converted a rebound from Servette goalie Stéphane Charlin as early as the 4th minute. In the 17th minute, Sven Senteler increased the lead to 2:0 in the power play.
After Zug's dominant first period, Servette took control of the game in the middle period. The 18-year-old Simas Ignatavicius rewarded Geneva's efforts shortly before the second break with the 1-2 equalizer. In the final period, Genoni's replacement Tim Wolf in the Zug goal prevented the equalizer several times before top scorer Dominik Kubalik scored the final goal with a shot into the empty net to make it 3:1.
With their fifth win from the last six home games, EVZ moved to within two points of Servette in the table. However, the midfield remains tight: there are only five points between third-placed Servette and the ZSC Lions in eighth place.
Geneva continue their campaign on Saturday with a home game against leaders Davos, while Zug visit bottom-placed Ajoie.
